On 16 June 2026, the CSIC-ICB Scientific Workshop brought together around 100 participants, including leading representatives from the energy sector in Aragón, Spain. The event aimed to showcase the institute’s main strategic research lines and scientific and technological capabilities while fostering collaboration with research institutions, universities, companies, and organizations working towards the energy transition and sustainability.
Throughout the workshop, CSIC-ICB presented its latest research activities and technological developments in three strategic areas:
- Energy storage and management
- Hydrogen technologies
- Non-fossil fuels and technologies
As part of the programme, Francisco García-Labiano chaired Session 3: Non-fossil Fuels and Technologies, where researchers highlighted recent advances in sustainable fuel production and conversion technologies.
Representing the Bio-MeGaFuel project, Teresa Mendiara presented the project’s latest achievements, outlining recent progress in the development of innovative biomass-based technologies for the production of sustainable fuels. (presenation HERE)
The workshop also included a guided visit to the experimental facilities at CSIC-ICB. During the tour, Alberto Abad presented the institute’s 20 kW Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) unit, explaining its role in gasification research and demonstrating how the facility supports the experimental work being carried out within the Bio-MeGaFuel project.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen connections between academia, industry, and public stakeholders while highlighting the contribution of the Bio-MeGaFuel project to advancing innovative non-fossil fuel technologies for a more sustainable energy future.
