The meeting was organized by European Gas Research Group (GERG), specifically within its Carbon Capture and Storage section.
GERG is a leading collaborative gas research organization in Europe, bringing together major energy companies and infrastructure operators to advance innovation, safety, sustainability, and the decarbonization of the gas system. Its activities focus on joint R&D initiatives supporting the energy transition, including renewable gases, hydrogen integration, and optimization of energy infrastructure. The association’s members represent key industrial players across the European gas and energy sector.

Researchers from ICB-CSIC were invited to contribute to this expert meeting. Francisco García Labiano (Bio-MeGaFuel project) and María Teresa Izquierdo (Bio-FlexCLC project) delivered a 20-minute presentation entitled: “Advances, Applications and Opportunities of Chemical Looping Technologies for Carbon Capture“

The presentation highlighted recent progress in chemical looping technologies and outlined the objectives and innovations of the EU-funded projects Bioflex-CLC and MegaBioFuel, emphasizing their role in advancing efficient and sustainable carbon capture solutions.
The talk was followed by an interactive 15-minute question-and-answer session, allowing participants to discuss technical challenges, industrial applications, and future opportunities for deployment.
