The Bio-MeGaFuel consortium held its latest General Meeting at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Zaragoza, Spain, bringing together partners from across Europe to discuss recent progress, ongoing research, and upcoming milestones in the project.
The meeting served as a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration across all work packages and align the project’s scientific and strategic objectives. Partners presented updates on the development of microbial-based pathways for advanced biofuel production, process optimization, and sustainability assessment.
A key focus of the event was Work Package 5, dedicated to sustainability and socio-economic evaluation. The IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute led an interactive workshop on Task 5.2, exploring approaches to assess environmental impacts and integration scenarios for biofuels in future energy systems. The session encouraged rich discussions among partners on methodologies, data requirements, and potential synergies between research areas.

In addition, the consortium held a brainstorming session on dissemination and communication activities, identifying new strategies to enhance outreach, visibility, and stakeholder engagement. The partners emphasized the importance of effectively communicating project results to policymakers, industry actors, and the wider public to maximize the project’s impact.
The meeting concluded with a review of the next steps in the Bio-MeGaFuel work plan, reinforcing the consortium’s shared commitment to advancing sustainable and innovative biofuel technologies that contribute to Europe’s green transition and decarbonization goals.
The Bio-MeGaFuel project continues to push the boundaries of microbial biotechnology, paving the way toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
